Community involvement is one of my obligations to the Governor in a professional military capacity but I feel it's as important as a civilian. I tend to direct my community service efforts to children, families and the less fortunate.
I was the Chairman of the Board for Imani Health Institute; a non-profit organization whoīs mission is to advocate on behalf of the community of color and low income individuals with state and federal health and human service agencies to insure quality and equality in the delivery of services. Imani promotes good health practices, healthy living, and the use of health care providers whenever necessary among all people within the community. Imani provides these services for individuals throughout the State of Vermont. I continue to support this organization because of itīs commitment to help the community.
Prior to Imani, I was the Chairman for Burlington Youth Football. With dedicated board members, coaches, parents and children that were committed to the hard work it takes to keep this self-funded organization running, we established new means to raise funds. Most of the fund-raising ideas continue today. I continue to support this organization because of how they help shape Burlingtonīs youth.
Iīm an active volunteer on Christmas morning preparing or serving meals for organizations such as Meals-on-Wheels or various churches in the Burlington community. |
