I believe that Burlington needs to grow commercially, to be economically prosperous. Burlington has real needs! We cannot continue to solely rely on the hard working home owners to foot a majority of the bill. We must make Burlington attractive for business, attractive for tourism and attractive for affordable living.
Airport expansion… excellent investment for our cities largest revenue generating asset.
Looking at the height ordinance for central downtown buildings is a good thing (not obstructing the majestic Battery Street view). Burlington does not have room to expand horizontally, potential growth is upward. As I stated in the first statement, we must have business potential in Burlington to relieve home-owner tax burdens. Also, we are in desperate need of another hotel in downtown. We have the lakefront, we would fill every room, every time. I see this as a serious revenue opportunity loss.
Gosse Court Community Center: Great investment on a gift from the Federal Government. This center satisfies needs for all generations. This center provides a place for seniors to exercise (by walking) in the cool weather, for the community to hold meetings, and a safe place for after school activities for our children. This is a Win, Win, and Win!
Another issue that our community faces is inadequate Senior Housing availability. I support the initiative to build more senior housing in the North Avenue DMV complex.
Our city has real needs! Our local government needs to be fiscally responsible and prioritize projects within the city's financial capacity. |
